Washington, United States of America. The biggest storm of the last 100 years to reach the east coast of the United States in about an hour. Over 400,000 people were evacuated and about 50-60 million people will be affected by this natural phenomenon.

17 states and the Federal District of Columbia will be affected by Hurricane Sandy starting from today. The 18 Masonic jurisdictions are inhabited by around 700,000 Freemasons. This week has been suspended a number of Masonic meetings.

Grand Secretaries and Chancellors of Europe: social network should always be considered as a mean of communication with society

Edinburgh, United Kingdom. As part of the 23rd Conference of Grand Secretaries and Chancellors of Europe, an event which was hosted this year by the Grand Lodge of Scotland was discussed and the emergence of social networks like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and how we use them to communicate with society. The overall conclusion was that a social network should always be considered as a mean of communication with society.

The next conference will take place in Rome in 2013 under the auspices of the Grand Orient of Italy, and in 2014 will be organized by the United Grand Lodge of England.

Goiânia, Brazil. Brother Euripides Barbosa Nunes was unanimously elected to be part of the Grand Orient of Brazil team as Deputy Grand Master. GOB is the largest Masonic Obedience in Latin America, totaling around 60,000 Brethren.

APMR's Secretary-General expressed in a letter sent last night, his full support for the Grand Master of the Grand Orient of the State of Goias, stating that his initiatives are an example for the entire Brazilian Masonic community and that are good enough to be exported in other countries around the world, referring to the Masonic anti-drug project.

The Symbolic Grand Lodge of Paraguay inaugurates Paraguay's first Masonic monument

Asuncion, Paraguay. Today at 8:30 AM will take place the inauguration ceremony of the first Masonic monument in Paraguay. The ceremony is part of the celebrations which are held with the occasion of the 35th Annual Meeting of the 6th Area of the Inter-American Masonic Confederation taking place these days in Asuncion under the auspices of the Symbolic Grand Lodge of Paraguay.

The ceremony will be led by Grand Master Euclides Acevedo and the monument is located in front of Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. The monument was built by Pitágoras #17 Lodge and with the support of GLSP. The Masonic monument commemorates the bicentennial independence of Paraguay and illustrious Freemasons of the country such as General Bernardino Caballero and Marshal Jose Felix Estigarribia.

Asuncion, Paraguay. Today at 15:00 will take place the opening ceremony of the 35th Annual Meeting of the 6th Area of the Inter-American Masonic Confederation. The ceremony will be chaired by the President of Paraguay, Federico Franco.

Yerevan, Armenia. From 9 to 12 October 2012 will be held the Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of Armenia. The Grand Lodge this year celebrated its first decade of existence. During October 9 to 11 will take place the ordinary sessions of Lodges (working in Armenian, Russian, English, French and Romanian). The Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of October 12 will be led by Grand Master Armen Simonian.

Tore Evensen is the new Grand Master of Norway

Oslo, Norway. Ivar A. Skar was replaced as Grand Master of Norway by Brother Tore Evensen (69 years). Evensen is a member of the Masonic Order for over 40 years and during his life he held several important offices in the Grand Lodge, including that of  Grand Standard Bearer.

Tore Evensen was initiated in St. Halvard Lodge in Hamar where he held several offices, and today is a member of St. Torfinn Lodge. The installation ceremony will take place on from 18 to 20 October 2012.

The General Assembly of the Club of Rome takes place in Romania

Bucharest, Romania. For the first time the General Assembly of the Club of Rome is held in Bucharest. Starting tomorrow and until Tuesday, members from around the world will attend a series of conferences and private meetings. Today at 3.30 p.m. (at the headquarters of the National Bank of Romania) will be held a press conference chaired by Governor Mugur Isarescu.
